Independent alternative sourcing

BeamSource Sourcing Quote Comparison Process

BeamSource Sourcing is an independent sourcing desk. It is not the referenced brand and does not claim authorized dealer status. The work here is to line up alternative modular and related site buildings on one written scope.

Bring the use, the drawing set you already have, and the commercial boundary you want priced. The desk then asks more than one factory the same questions. A reply that skips exclusions is sent back before it is treated as a bid.

Sourcing desk comparing two modular building quotations

The sequence the desk actually runs

Checklist of building use and destination fields

1. Lock the buyer brief

Each supplier should see the same occupancy, footprint, eave height, quantity, destination ZIP or port, and requested window. If you already hold a 115 mph wind speed, a 30 psf ground snow load, or seismic design category C, write those figures in the first note so later offers do not invent a lighter design basis. If you do not hold them, leave the cells blank and name the city instead.

Factory shortlist notes without brand seals

2. Ask factories, not a homepage

Outreach goes to producers who can quote the requested format. BeamSource Sourcing does not own a plant and does not present itself as a dealer for any searched brand. A factory that only sells a different system is recorded as a mismatch, not stretched to fit the brief.

Scope matrix with included and excluded rows

3. Normalize the commercial lines

Freight, duties, taxes, crane time, foundation design, and installation are separate lines. A per-module factory price and a whole-order delivered price are not the same basis. Optional finish packages stay optional until you accept them in writing.

Fields each quotation should answer

Building definition

Product formatPurpose-built volumetric module, portable building or a separately defined modified-container system
Primary frameMember type, steel grade, and coating named by the supplier
Secondary framingPurlin and girt spacing if the offer is a framed envelope rather than a closed module
EnvelopeWall and roof build-up, insulated metal panel or other, and stated thermal transmittance

Project conditions

JurisdictionAuthority having jurisdiction and the code edition the supplier assumed
Design loadsDesign live load, design dead load, wind exposure category, snow, seismic design category
InterfacesFoundation interface, utility entry, stairs, and who stamps the site work

Commercial boundary

Incoterms or delivery pointFactory gate, port, or jobsite, written on the offer
ExclusionsPermits, civil works, furniture, and owner-supplied equipment
DocumentsDrawings, welding notes referencing AWS D1.1 where relevant, and warranty text for this system

IAS AC472 or ISO 9001, if a supplier mentions them, must be checked against the plant and the product on the quotation. A general certificate does not travel to every building that plant can describe.

Questions buyers ask before they send drawings

Quote content

Which costs have to be split out?

Ask for the product, ocean or inland freight, duties and taxes if the supplier is naming them, crane or unloading, installation, and optional finishes as separate lines. A single blended number hides whether you are buying a shell or a turnkey building.

Can two offers be ranked on the first reply?

Only after dimensions, currency, quantity, delivery point, and scope marks match. If one offer assumes panelized construction and the other assumes a volumetric module, record that as a technical difference before talking about price.

Responsibility

Who decides code acceptance?

The buyer and the licensed professionals on the project decide. This desk can request calculations and shop drawings. It does not stamp them and it does not tell an authority that a substitute is approved.

What if the budget is only a range?

An optional USD range, marked per unit or whole order, helps factories see the ceiling. It is not a target they must hit, and it is not evidence that a cheaper offer is suitable.

Ready for factories to answer the same brief?

Send the requirement once. The form keeps your wording. Budget and supplier preference, if you add them, travel with the submission as buyer notes.

  • Use, size, loads, and jurisdiction in one place
  • Quantity, destination, and timing
  • Shell, delivered, installed, or turnkey called out
  • Documents you expect with the quotation

Preferences and review

The desk reviews the brief and asks factories for quotations on the same scope. Drawings can be sent after the first reply. Read the Privacy Policy. Availability, price, and code acceptance stay unconfirmed until a named supplier answers the exact system and jurisdiction.
